I left my heart in San Francisco…

Our trip was intense. I realize that descriptor is remarkably overused, but it’s the only one I can think of that adequately captures the experience of being in a beautiful and gritty place for the express purpose of meeting our donor and trying to conceive the Bean. It was sort of ethereal, watching other people go about their daily lives so blithely while just a few feet away we were sweating through first meetings, negotiations, and the drop off/pick up of half of Bean’s genetic material. I was relieved to discover that the three of us (five of us, really, because we should include our hosts who named their home “Ground Zero” in our honor) were able to smile and laugh and count on one another. Hope you enjoy my virtual toast to San Francisco, home of this new year and all the promise it holds.
